The day of TWO outings!

Today is not going to be great, but we are going to get through it.  We have the twoddlers’ 18 month well baby visit and it involves several rounds of shots.  I’m ready with the Tylenol before and after for pain management, but I’m expecting to do very little except offer snuggles today!  And really, a snuggling day sounds ideal… if only they didn’t have any shots to endure.

Instead of dwelling on our icky day today, I want to walk you through Tuesday, Feb. 24, one of our coolest days ever!  It was a monumental milestone in the life of Jaime, mommy of twins.  We went on TWO outings in one day!  For the first time!  Now, this might be no big deal to you but it is HUGE for us.  The babies and I leave this house once per day, tops.  If we go to the trouble of getting out to the van and into the carseats etc., we run 1-3 errands in a row, and get ourselves back home to the Haven asap.  If we head back out for a second time in the same day, Daddy is home and I have help or something like that.  It’s just such an effort… I never seem to be able to manage it more than once in a day.  Until Tuesday!

We went to the library in the morning like we always do.  It was awesome!  We got there early and my running twoddlers terrorized the entire children’s department (pictures to follow).  My mistake was letting them out of the stroller to roam freely.  We literally ran around the place with me chasing them in 2-5 directions simultaneously and I told myself we were not coming this early ever again, but of course we will.  They need the freedom!  Then we enjoyed Babies’ Laptime.  There was a lovely woman with her granddaughter who worked with Rissa on turning around to crawl down the stairs.  Rissa did NOT want to do the stairs, but she decided that this woman was her person and she went over to sit with her for the story time!  So Zach followed.  They have always clung to me in public and here they are making friends and branching out to explore!  I was so proud.  God bless that lovely lady who snuggled my kids just because she was so kind.

Rissa pounces a pillow at the library Zach discovered the magic button that opens the big doors and proceeded to push it over and over, despite any redirecting on my part.

Heading in 2 directions... Zach for the magic button that opens the doors, Rissa for the car display. Zach turned on the cd for the librarian... these kids are electronics geniuses! Marissa empties the librarian's maracas bin

Zach considers trying the steps Rissa keeps a safe distance from the stairs and has no intention of trying them. Rissa's new friend!

On our way out of the library, we noticed a sign for the Day of the Drum at Krannert, all day on Feb. 24.  I mentally calculated when that day was and decided that we HAD to go.  Then I realized that TODAY was Feb. 24.  Hmm, could I manage a two outing day?  We went home for lunch and naps and when the babies woke up, I decided to chance it!  It went well and I’m so proud that we pulled it off!  The drumming was so incredibly cool.  I drummed my own rhythms on Zach and Rissa’s legs so they would have a combined visual/auditory/tactile memory of the event.  I was immediately hoping to send my kids to school at Next Generation so they could be part of the Recycled Rhythms percussion group someday.  They used mudding compound buckets and old tires and trashcans as drums and it was so cool!

I had never noticed this, but Zach is absolutely right... those lamps DO look like bubbles! Mesmerized by the drumming

Kids from Next Generation's Recycled Rhythms... they were awesome! Rissa and Zach loved Dahui!

Krannert's Day of the Drum friends from the library, Kaylee and Kim, enjoyed the drumming with us masses of drum fans!

Mommy and twoddlers... our successful 2 outing day!

My favorite part of the day (other than the babies chanting “Bah bo!  Bah bo!  Bah bo!” as they pointed at the lamps which were clearly bubbles outside of Krannert) was watching them dance.  They are so different but they both can appreciate a good beat!
