St. Louis — Father’s Day

Father’s Day Sunday began with Jaime sneaking out of bed to get morning sippy cups together for our twoddlers so Daddy could sleep in a bit.  But not for long!  Before he knew it, two squirmy little people were in his bed pouncing him, announcing, “Happee Day, Daddy!” and trying to open his cards for him.  They picked out their card for him all on their own, based on the fact that it had a bear on the front.  It contained the perfect sentiment too, so I was incredibly impressed with their good choice!

helping Daddy open his cards! The twoddler conga line across our bed... they just NEVER stop moving. Ever. I'm serious.

We spent the morning packing the van for our trip and keeping Hoochie from getting too upset by all the luggage strewn about our living room (he has been known to unzip a suitcase and pull the clothing out all over the floor to thwart any attempt on our part to leave him behind).  He spent a leisurely week with Frank and Kathie while we were gone and loved every second of it!  We popped the twins in their carseats, handed them their special blankies and teddies and said, “nigh-night,” hoping that they would nap for the 3 hour drive to St. Louis.  Off we went!  Upon arriving at our hotel, we checked out all of the features and then hit the pool!

They woke up early but sippies and some animal crackers did the trick to keep them amused until we got there! Our SWEET! king-sized suite.

The giant lobby was really exciting for twoddlers! The elevator is down the hallway just to the left... eventually they learned the floor layout and raced pell-mell to the elevator to push the button. They loved how it said, "Going down."

Checking out the pool. They decided that they definitely wanted to go in the "wat-uh." Back upstairs to get swimsuits and floaty boats! Rissa called them "pee-yos" (pillows) and wanted to carry them herself. Zach was fine with letting Rissa carry his float; he wanted to run ahead and PUSH THE BUTTON! He can just barely reach.

Pool time! The water was cold, which didn't bother Rissa, but Zach prefers warm water AND being able to touch the bottom with his feet. Snuggling in the security of Daddy's arms helped quite a bit. Even with Daddy's help, Zach was rather convinced that we were "ahh done, wat-uh!"

A fancy-looking Italian restaurant was right inside the building, so we walked over to be frank with them:  “We have two 1 year olds.  Can we bring them here?  Be honest.”  The waitstaff was welcoming and a bit shocked that we would even ask, so we trotted over and had a nice dinner with Daddy.  It was a really beautiful day together as a family, and we had a whole week of vacation left together!

Mommy and her silly girl. Daddy and his mini-me. Going out to a nice dinner with twoddlers CAN be done! Just keep a hefty supply of cwackuhs nearby and let them share your water and you'll be set!
