April fun and fiascos

Oh, what to post about… hmm. How about some cute babies! I have to apologize to our parents who print off practically every photo I post… you are missing about 1 month worth of cuteness. Someday you’ll get them, but I have to move forward because these babies are changing non-stop! So for everyone out there, I’ll cover April thus far, how about that? And there will be a shocking twist at the end, but by all means, DON’T GO LOOK YET! It will ruin your excitement over everything up until then, and you don’t want to do that to yourselves. And let me just state for the record, in case any of you are evil enough to have this thought occur to you, no, we are not pregnant. Can you even imagine? I cannot. Let’s move on.

April began with a LOT of toy stealing. I’ll refer you back to here for more pictures of Zach’s escapades into thievery. Beyond that, they both love to stand. Stand and gaze. Stand, gaze, and grasp a toy or two. They don’t so much love to sit, because they can’t. Sitting appears to be for babies who can’t stand, and they can stand, so why bother? So we sit them in the Bumbos or in our laps, but ehhh. It’s only a so-so activity. However, from Mommy’s perspective, sitting is the best! We need more sitting! Where are those Bumbo chairs… I need a place to set you guys so I can go pee/wash dishes/have a moment to myself/etc. It is SO nice to have 2 Bumbos and to not have spent the extra $40 to get the second one! Thanks, Sara and Nathan!

Unsuspecting Rissa happily chews the puppy’s ear… meanwhile… Bumbos + Gymini = new perspective and extra fun!

The babies have been sleeping separately for several months now. It’s a good thing too, or they would be punching and kicking each other’s lights out nonstop! They are the most active little sleepers! I tried popping Riss into Zach’s crib with him while I dealt with something, probably Hoochie peeing somewhere. (Sidenote: Hooch has taken it upon himself to get a new hobby: peeing in our house. He pees on the footrail of my side of the bed. He poops near the scrapbooking area. I think he might be sending me his own version of hate mail. You think?!?). Anyway, the being in the same crib for 10 minutes went well! Everyone still has 2 eyes and no one was screaming when I got back. Here are some other adorable crib shots… the babies love to block the light with their teddy/blankies. Those things are the best transitional objects ever… they are tiny enough that the babies could manipulate them back when they were uncoordinated and soft and plush and impossible to choke or suffocate on. Rissa gave up her pacie about 6 weeks ago and Zach gave his up about 6 weeks before that, so we’re thrilled that they have attached to something they can control.

Let’s see what happens… Rissa and Hoochie

The exersaucer that we are borrowing from Will is AMAZING. Rissa loves to bounce in and crash the phone around. Zach loves to lean hard to one side or the other, chomp, and then urp all over the thing. I don’t think he loves the urping so much, but he doesn’t really do anything to prevent it either. Cause and effect, buddy, cause and effect. Note Rissa blowing a raspberry in the first photo. She is really into this these days.

I suppose I could take a cause and effect lesson myself. Rissa has taken to tantruming… she just explodes sometimes! She gives warning signs, but if you are doing something she has clearly stated is not okay, such as tummy time, watch out! I bring it on myself, I suppose, so I have to snap a quick picture, then dive in and rescue her. Sometimes it isn’t my fault. Like at bathtime, when they both just started rolling like crazy.

We have some fun new fashions to display. I chose these monkey/elephant matching outfits with store credit from my Aunt Sandy. We took a photo last Sunday of the four of us. The babies didn’t want to smile at the crazy blinking light of the camera in timer mode. I love it though, because before they were born, Matt went and picked out this dress for Raisin completely on his own because he thought she would be beautiful in it the following spring. And she is! And check out Zach, the baby burninating Trogdor! We’ve been strolling alot. For my own sanity, I’m combatting cabin fever by getting us outside for as many sunny days as possible. Sometimes a jacket is enough and sometimes we need the gingerbread suits. These suits are only now getting too small and spring is here, so they fit for exactly the right amount of time! Awesome. I included an early picture of the babies in the gingerbread suits to show you their growth since December 15.

Tasting things is a fun activity. Usually, they like to taste Matt’s arm, their own fingers or their toys. Rissa has agreed to try Zach’s method of finger sucking and agrees that it’s a good way to go, but she prefers her thumb, thanks. Thank goodness Hooch won’t hold still long enough to be “tasted.”

And finally, your surprise. Today, on tax day, the babies sat! Just for 3-10 seconds without tipping and we were there to catch them when they did tip, but they sat! Here is the evidence:

Zach is sitting on his own! Rissa is sitting on her own!
