Proud parents

This past week has had its stressful moments for all of us in the Olson household, and our little Hooch has certainly had his fill.  So it’s really no surprise that he was, at least initially, completely uncreative in his misbehaviours:  You know, the typical “tip over the trash can to eat the dirty Kleenex” or “beg to go outside even though you just pooped on Mommy and Daddy’s bedroom carpet” sort of shenanigans.  He has to get back at us for abandoning him over the weekend, so why not go straight to the ol’ standbys?

Well, tonight Hooch showed us his true colors, and I couldn’t be more proud.  He’s quite the problem solver.  Jaime and I were chatting, when I heard a strange, almost imperceptible noise coming from the other room.  Of course, I did what I always do when I hear a strange noise — run to see what Hooch has gotten into.  This is exactly what I found:

 Hooch’s great accomplishment

Now at first glance, this may not seem very interesting, but there are three key points you should notice:

  1. The kennel is locked
  2. Hooch’s new bone is in the kennel
  3. The kennel is in the middle of a doorway

Yes, our industrious and stealthy Ninja-Schnauzer had managed to haul his kennel across the hallway in an attempt to crack it open to get his bone out!  I’m certain he was heading for the step down into the bathroom, hoping the drop would be enough to move that bone within reach of his little paws.  But the coolest part is that he used the carpet that the kennel sits on to pull it across the room.  Here’s what the scene would have looked like when the light bulb above Hooch’s head first appeared:

 Metaphorical light bulb

Of course, here in the Olson house, such effort and initiative does not go unrewarded, and in the end, our little guy got what he was seeking, and he was quite thrilled:

Chewing his little heart out

It took a lot of problem solving to figure out that he needed to grab the carpet to move the kennel!  We’re so proud!  If only Hooch were always this clever — I don’t think we’d ever be mad at him!

And yes, the title of this post was evil — I guess you can blame it on the stress or something… 🙂
