Just a quickie from me…

Wow, Matt just showed me our blog and all these amazing pictures. Thank you all for your support and prayers for me and for our two tiny little peanuts. This morning I couldn’t sleep and Matt was at home. I called the NICU and it turned out that Kiwi couldn’t sleep either, so I went and held him during his 5am feeding and we spent precious time together. This may already be obvious to you, but our kids are the cutest kids ever. I’m biased and all, but I can say that because a) I’m their mommy, b) I have high blood pressure and who is going to be silly enough to pick an argument with me right now?, and c) they are such a perfect gift from the Father of Lights, who delights in His children. I keep getting sniffly while I think about them. I got to feed Raisin her bottle this afternoon and Kiwi gripped my pinkie with his tiny little hand until he fell asleep. My milk is still waiting to come in because my body was informed rather joltingly, “Hey, make milk! The babies are here!” It’s trying to catch up.

I’m trying to feel better but I’m so exhausted all the time! Matt has been such an angel– taking care of me, going down to the NICU for the babies’ events, keeping you all updated. I couldn’t ask for a better husband or father for these babies! He is amazing. As someone said on the phone to me today, “Well, you knew he rocked when you married him!” It’s true, I did know that 🙂 It has been fun to find out in just how many ways he rocks! I better go get back in bed and try to give my body some rest. We love you all. Thanks for loving us and our babies! They are such a gift.

Quick picture update!

First, Jaime is doing much better today! Dr. Wozniak says she’s finally rounded the corner, or reached the peak, or gone Over the Top, or some such medical cliche that means she’s finally getting better! I know it was a combination of finally being able to hold the babies and God answering a ton of prayers that did the trick, so thank you everyone!

As for the babies, they’re still doing great! Yesterday, they actually got to spend some time together in the same crib (although Kiwi isn’t quite ready to regulate his own body temp yet, so he’s back under the heater for the time being). They’re so cute, all cuddled together, just like the good ol’ days (which for them was only 3 days ago).

Now, on to the pictures!

So, now that Jaime is finally off her magnesium sulfate, we hope to both be awake enough to pick some names. So stay tuned — if you’re lucky, you might find out those names today!

The latest on Jaime

Just a quick update posting to explain the situation in a little more detail: Jaime is doing alright, but still needs your prayers for recovery. They still have her on magnesium sulfate to try to get her blood pressure down and her platelet count up, and that stuff makes her very groggy. Incidently, this is part of the reason that we haven’t come up with names yet — as fun as it would be to take advantage of this to choose some interesting names for our babies, I’m still currently capable of some self-restraint (and self-preservation).

Anyway, the main frustration of Jaime still being on total bedrest and being on the loopy drugs is that the doctor isn’t letting her go down to visit the babies as often. The prescription for getting better is plenty of rest in a dark room, making sure to move around enough to heal well, but stay calm enough to let the body rest and recover. Of course, being told you can’t go down and visit your babies because you need to relax and lower your blood pressure does NOT help anyone lower their blood pressure. It was horrible, especially since as of noon today, Jaime still hadn’t even had a chance to hold our babies!

But, the good news is that: 1) Both babies got their CPAP removed at 10am this morning, so they’re both breathing on their own and doing great! 2) I got to go down by myself for the first feeding at 11am, and was able to hold Raisin during her feeding (Kiwi was still a little too stressed at the time), 3) the babies’ first feeding was all breast milk, which is great for their little immune systems, and 4) We finally got to bring Jaime down for the babies’ first baths at 2pm today, and Jaime was able to hold the babies, which was fantastic!

So things are getting better each day, but it’s still very hard. We’re not really able to do visitors right now because Jaime does need to rest as much as she possibly can. I’m hanging out with her as much as possible, reading through baby name books and baby care books and just being there for moral support. But overall, things are slowly and steadily improving. And as soon as Jaime’s able to get out of bed, things are really gonna start to pick up around here 🙂

Thanks again for all of your prayers, and perhaps tonight I’ll have time to post more pictures of our incredibly adorable, beautiful babies!

Jaime’s recovery

This is just a quick post to ask for your prayers for Jaime’s recovery. As you may or may not know, Jaime is suffering from pre-eclampsia (also more generically called toxemia), which is why we were able to meet our beautiful little babies so early. This was not a danger to the babies at the time because it was caught so early, but it was a very serious danger to Jaime, and the only real cure is delivering the babies.

Jaime is still in recovery from this, and at first after the birth she was doing well. However, she began to feel much worse again last night at around midnight. Her blood work this morning was somewhat worse than it was yesterday, giving an indication of just how serious it was and how thankful we are that Dr. Wozniak made the call she did. The next 24 hours are the most critical, so we just ask for your prayers during the slow and painful recovery from not just a C-section, but from the pre-eclampsia as well. Jaime was amazing during delivery, and she’s hung in there very well, but this is really taking its toll on her.

Thanks so much to all who are reading and supporting us during this time 🙂

Long-awaited pictures!

Without further ado, I bring you a pictoral glimpse into our life the past 2 days 🙂
