Delightful Madness
That’s what Andrew called our visit on his blog. We spent 2 glorious days in Kansas City without even thinking about Marissa’s surgery! This is because we were visiting dear friends, Andrew and Joy and their son, Sam, who moved away from C-U ~2 years ago, just before Sam was born. They hosted us and fed us and provided merriment and relaxation. We did things we used to do before we all had kids, like play games and watch movies and having meaningful conversations (revised versions of course, since we DO have kids now. We played a game across 2-3 segments with feedings/naps in between or Andrew and Matt watched only part of Matt’s birthday gift from my brother, Bender’s Big Score, and our conversations always got cut short by something). It was a beautiful mess with a two-year-old and two three-month-olds. It was partially so fun because we haven’t seen them in just over a year and Sam has changed so much! During dinner, Matt was still upstairs taking a nap to recover from some kind of allergic reaction, and the rest of us sat down to eat. Sam decided to pray. “Dear Jesus, thank you for Mama and Dada and Two and One and Miss Zaime and… hey! Wheya Misser Matt???” I thought it was cute that he thanked Jesus for his favorite numbers until I realized he was referring to the twins! He was great about touching only their tummies and legs, just as he had been instructed!
We hoped to attend church with them and to participate in Joy’s Sunday School class, but our schedule is so hit-and-miss! We never know when the babies will wake up and it so happened that they wanted to eat 15 minutes before church started. Matt was in bed because he was feeling sick and I just handled them on my own during that segment. Joy and Andrew took 1.5 shifts so we could have a much-needed nap! They were so helpful about holding the babies and playing with them as well! We got lots of breaks. And the babies were amazingly adaptive. I wish I could adapt to traveling as well as they did. They slept pretty well in their pack ‘n play and were sweet and smiley during awake times.
Here are some pictures from the weekend. I should point out Sam standing in the frame of his new big-boy bed. He is going to become a big brother in June, but he is transitioning now so that the change is about him and how mature he has become rather than just to displace him for a new baby. Genius!
WOW!! I’m looking at how big the twins are and how much better muscle control they have by the way you hold them. What a great weekend of rest and play. The pictures are adorable—Yup, those are my grandbabies!!
Is Zach giving us the finger in the picture with the Christmas tree?
